The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) is an expert scientific committee that advises the government on vaccines and immunisation. It advances public health by recommending areas for future vaccine-related research. It makes recommendations on vaccine schedules and the safety of vaccines. It began as an advisory board for the fight against polio and became the JCVI in 1963. The JCVI in its current statutory form was established by the National Health Service (NHS) (Standing Advisory Committees) Order 1981 (SI 1981/597). It currently has subcommittees focusing on covid-19, HPV, influenza, meningococcal disease, pneumococcal disease, respiratory syncytial virus and the varicella zoster virus, as well as subcommittees for travel and horizon scanning.
