Forest Research is the UK’s leading forestry research body. It provides information on forestry’s contribution to government policies as well as environmental, social and economic issues linked to both UK and international forests. It is the evidence basis for the UK’s forestry practices and supports innovation. It was set up as the research agency of the Forestry Commission, with its original research institute (the Alice Holt Research Station in Hampshire) being established in 1946. It now also runs two other research stations, one in Midlothian and the other in Aberystwyth.
