The North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA) protects communities and the environment and bolsters the economy by regulating the oil, gas, offshore hydrogen and carbon storage industries. It acts as the driving force of the North Sea energy transition which is a key component in the UK’s Net Zero strategy. It was established in 2015 as the Oil and Gas Authority. It changed its name to the North Sea Transition Authority in 2022. It is organised as a private company limited by shares wholly owned by the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero.
